I have little bit of nerd in me. I know a fair bit about our local history. But you didn't have to be an academic to be offended by Selector Magazine's Companions edition.... You just had to be a Macarthur local. Looking for some sort of acknowledgment for Camden Park's role in the birth of our wine industry, I scoured the 'history' section of each wine variety in the book. Finally! Riesling was attributed to "William Macarthur in 1838 at his Camden Park property near Penrith." WHAT? Near @#>%ing Penrith? Firstly the acknowledgment was underdone. There were many other wine varieties which can be traced back to the first real commercial vineyard in Australia. Then, when Camden Park finally gets some recognition, it's "near Penrith". Unbelievable - yes I will be writing a letter to the editor... see - a nerd.
